When I walked past the very welcoming front of this restaurant in the burgeoning street « Notre Dame de Nazareth, I immediately made a note of it in order to know who was behind this funny name, a famous cartoon character, Elmer.
Simon Horwitz is in charge of Elmer. This young chef started out in Oustau de Baumanière restaurant with Sylvestre Wahid.
Reviews are terrific. I decided to book a table to taste Chef Horwitz’s creations.
The setting is very welcoming : solid wooden tables, a very big roasting spit where the popular Coucou de Rennes (type of hen from Brittany) is cooked and a very big open kitchen : )
The menu changes everyday (you will see it thanks to the date which is stamped on the menu).
When I came, I ordered some foie gras as a starter, some fish to share with braised chicories. The cooking of the fish was perfect !
I ordered a glass of white wine which paired perfectly the course.
To conclude, the astmosphere, team and quality of the courses are great ! We didn’t have to wait dor long, unlike other reviews I read.
AVERAGE PRICE : lunch : 25 to 29 €
Diner : off-menu : about 60€
